Is STRIANT covered by managed care?

1. Is STRIANT comfortable to use?

Yes. After patients become used to wearing and applying STRIANT, most don’t even know it’s there. The adjustment is much like how the eyes get used to contact lenses.

2. Does STRIANT completely dissolve?

STRIANT is a solid tablet-like product that slowly absorbs moisture from the outside in. As this happens, STRIANT softens and molds to the shape of your gum. You should be aware that STRIANT does not dissolve completely, but will remain in place for 12 hours. When it’s time for a new dose, simply remove any leftover product. You can use a toothbrush to clean away the residue or remove STRIANT by gently sliding it to the front or back of your mouth to loosen it. Then slide it downwards from your gum to your tooth. This will avoid scratching the gum.

3. What if STRIANT falls off?
Once you get used to applying the STRIANT buccal system, it should stay in place. There are clear directions in the Full Prescribing Information and Patient Booklet about replacing STRIANT should it fall off. If STRIANT does not stick or if it falls off within the first 8 hours, you should remove the original system and apply a new one. This counts as replacing the first dose. Apply the next system about 12 hours after the original buccal system was applied. If STRIANT falls off after 8 hours but before 12 hours, you should replace the original buccal system. This replacement can serve as the second dose for that day.

After applying STRIANT, it is important not to move it with your tongue. If you move it immediately after applying, you may dislodge the product and it may be difficult to reapply. If you have any questions about how to apply and use STRIANT, please call our toll-free patient support line at 1-866-STRIANT (787-4268).

4. What if I swallow STRIANT?

STRIANT should not be chewed or swallowed. If it happens accidentally, testosterone that is swallowed is not expected to enter your bloodstream in significant amounts because it is quickly broken down by your digestive system. However, if you should experience an adverse effect, please contact your doctor. Replace STRIANT as directed previously in question 3.

5. Can I eat, drink, brush my teeth, or chew gum while I use STRIANT?

Yes. These activities do not affect how STRIANT works. You may find it convenient to apply the morning dose after brushing your teeth following breakfast and the evening dose following your evening meal.

As a precaution, you should always check to see if STRIANT is in place after brushing your teeth, using mouthwash, eating, and drinking. If STRIANT falls off while you’re eating and/or drinking, replace the buccal system according to the directions in Question #3. Also, try to refrain from touching STRIANT with your tongue immediately after you apply it. If you move it immediately after applying, you may dislodge the product and it may be difficult to reapply.

6. Will STRIANT interfere with kissing and intimate activities?

STRIANT should not get in the way of kissing or intimate activities.

7. Is there a risk of transferring testosterone to my partner or my children?

Transference is not an issue with STRIANT. STRIANT is specially designed to deliver testosterone directly through the tissues inside your mouth (also called the buccal mucosa). Because STRIANT is a buccal delivery system, it allows for controlled and sustained absorption of testosterone through the gum and cheek surfaces that are in contact with the buccal system.

8. What if I have a dental appointment?

You should discuss your STRIANT therapy with your dental professional.

9. Can I use STRIANT if I wear dentures?

Yes, in most cases. But you may need to make adjustments to the application process. Before you apply STRIANT , you may want to call our toll-free patient support line at 1-866-STRIANT (787-4268) and speak with our medical staff about the steps that may be required in applying STRIANT while wearing dentures.

10. Does STRIANT interact with other drugs?

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Some medicines may cause serious side effects if taken while you also take STRIANT. Some medicines may affect how STRIANT works, or STRIANT may affect how your other medicines work. Be sure to tell your doctor if you use insulin for diabetes. Your dose of insulin may need to be adjusted if you use STRIANT.

11. Will STRIANT affect my sense of taste?

In one of the studies of STRIANT that was conducted for the Food and Drug Administration, 4.1% of men said they had a bitter taste and 2% reported that their taste was affected.

12. Are there any additional tests my doctor may need to do while I’m taking STRIANT?

Your doctor may do blood tests to check your red blood cells, liver function, cholesterol level, testosterone levels, and prostate while you are using STRIANT, to see how STRIANT is affecting your body.

13. Can STRIANT fall out while I’m sleeping?

STRIANT is designed to be used and stay in place while you are sleeping. You have to keep STRIANT in place overnight to get the testosterone you need.

14. What happens if I forget to take a dose?

If you miss a dose, you should begin again with your next scheduled dose. Do not try to make up for a missed dose.

15. Is STRIANT covered by managed care?

Based on the way managed care systems are currently structured, the cost of STRIANT will be reimbursed in most cases. You should check with your insurance provider or pharmacist for more detailed information on how STRIANT is covered.
